Beginning Of A New Chapter

Today we went to "Career Day" at UPT training. Basically this is where different planes in the AF visit the UPT  base and speak to the students about each airframe. All the aircraft are then put out on display so the families can tour them and ask questions.

During this new chapter of our life we find ourselves back to square one... we have NO CLUE what the next 15 years of our lives will be like. The wait to know which airframe youll end up in can be so irritating. You spend the majority of training doing research on deployment schedules, missions, and location options and then your husband attempts to do his best during training so he might have a fighting shot at getting something close to what he wants. The chances of getting what the airframe you want? Slim. The chance of getting the airframe AND the base you want? Nearly impossible unless your top of your class and with 2 f-15 WSO's in R's class, even that looks like a slim option.

Fortunately now that we've been through all this once we know to expect the unexpected and that ultimately it's all about the Air Force coming first. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. In any case that brings us to today. It was fun and we learned a lot about several air craft but probably wont get our hopes up over anything in particular. The most Im hoping for is a somewhat decent climate and a reasonable deployment schedule for our next assignment.

The biggest revelation of the day? Yep. Most fighter pilots are total DB's. Tried to ask the guy a couple questions (hello. that's what youre here today for and Im just a freaking spouse, be nice dude). I honestly dont know how the guys head fits in his helmet. He clearly had something better to do and did not hesitate show
me his irritation at my questions. Like I said, total tool. I think that answered the biggest question which was whether we were hoping for T-38's(aka the fighter) or T-1's(aka the heavy). I think my personal desire is to stick with the heavy community. If tracking 38's means I have to deal with guys like that on a regular basis, no thank you.

Here a few shots of the day. Allie of course needed a nap pretty much as soon as we got there so I didnt get to take too many cute pics but here's what we have:

What Allie Did All Day
Allie and R in front of the T38 the B2 guys brought with them. (since we have a ton of 38's here this was the only plane that wasnt packed, hence the picture.)

  1. We have the 38 DBs here too. T-1s are much more laid back! Probably why we choose to stick with them for a while, lol.
