Our Gender Ultrasound

On Friday, July 22, 2011 I woke up and got ready to go find out what the rest of my life was going to be like. My mom had come in to town the night before so she could go to the ultrasound that was about to tell us if we were having a boy or a girl because I really wanted her to experience that with us. R woke up early and picked up breakfast for us and we headed down the road (with a large Mt. Dew in tow to make sure baby would move around for a good shot).

We got to the elective ultrasound place and it was such a nice set up! They had a nice bed type thing for me to lay in and an big recliner for R and a chair for my mom as well. To top things off they had a HUGE flat screen TV set up facing us so we could see the entire scan very well!

The tech came in and she started the scan. About two seconds into the scan her little bum was right up at the u/s prob! We didn't see a penis but the tech didnt announce what it was right away so we were talking about it to each other. R and my mom (who were both convinced the baby was a girl anyway) said "that's a girl!". I however wasn't sure. My exact thoughts were "is that a tiny penis or a girl??" The tech, who was awesome, didnt say a word and just smiled and typed "It's a..." and then waited until I looked at her and she finally wrote "GIRL!!!" I was so stunned but THRILLED! I has kindof wanted a girl first but was SURE it was a boy. I was so surprised and happy that we were having a little Alissa Faye!

For the rest of the 30 minute scan we were just able to watch our baby girl kick, suck on her hands, cover her ears, and have the hiccups! The tech was supposed to only do a "glimpse" of her in 3D and wasnt supposed to give us pictures of it, but she kept it in 3D for at least half the scan and gave us several 3D pictures and took a ton of other 3d and 2d pictures that they put on cd for us to take home! We have at least 20 pictures just from that scan!

She did a few diagnostic checks to make sure that obvious things werent wrong and that the baby was measuring on track (she was!) and sent us home with a whole DVD of the u/s, several printed pictures and a cd with the rest of the pictures on it!

It was one of the best experiences ever and was easily the best 84 dollars we've ever spent! I am never going to forget this ultrasound and how I felt or the look on my husbands face as he watched his little girl swimming and moving and kicking for the very first time!

I am so happy that our girl looks healthy so far and that we can finally start picking stuff out and making real plans! So fun! Cant wait to meet our little Allie Cat!

And now a few parting pictures of our awesome scan:

Allie waving and smiling :)

Allie's "lady parts"

Allie in 3D looking sleepy:) (We already think she has my nose and cheek bones and R's lips haha!)

  2. It's so nice that people are willing to go out of their way to give you "extras" when it comes to ultrasounds and pictures. It's the little things that mean so much in those movements!! Also, wait until about 30 something weeks when you can actually start feeling those hiccups from the inside and outside. I think I started feeling them around 35 weeks. It's sooo neat. After Brooklyn had flipped into head down position I could also put my hand on my lower belly and feel her hiccups. You have soo many cool things to come. I miss being pregnant (lol)...can you tell?
